Growing up surfing the North Shore, he was the youngest finalist ever at the Pipeline Masters. Just one week later, he took a spill at Pipeline that gave him over 150 stitches in his forehead, knocked out a few of his teeth & ended his pro surfing career.
So instead of crying over his misfortune ( maybe he did a little … ) he put down his surfboard & picked up a guitar. All his debut album in 2001 did was go Platinum here, Britain & the UK. Well played Sir ..
B-Side Trax:
A new concept for radio: a 6-minute featurette that airs once a day, five days a week. Aside from digging up songs unburnt, there’s also a fascinating, 30-second story behind each track. Because it plays to the ‘Short Attention-Span Theater’ we all have nowadays, the tune-out factor is zero !!
Here’s what aired last week on B-Side Alternative and a link to a recent show:
Monday: Get The Balance Right ! – Depeche Mode
Tuesday: Flake – Jack Johnson
Wednesday: Stop The Rock – Apollo 440
Thursday: Gotta Get Away – The Offspring
Friday: Bathwater – No Doubt
Many stations use this vignette as a lead-in or the centerpiece for their retro or flashback shows. Some use it as a stand-alone or even combine each week’s shows to form a 30-minute weekend retro feature. That flexibility is a benefit for individual stations to use to their advantage.
Here’s a week on B-Side Classic Rock, plus a show link:
Monday: Too Rolling Stoned – Robin Trower
Tuesday: Better Man – Pearl Jam
Wednesday: Fairies Wear Boots – Black Sabbath
Thursday Time Has Come Today – The Chambers Brothers
Friday: Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
B-Well,
Mike
