This is The Album That Inspired Slash To Play Guitar ! B-Side Trax …

I’m not makin’ this stuff up, Slash actually said that this was the album that made him want to learn the guitar.  And he’s not alone, James Hetfield said the same thing.  It was one of Kurt Cobain’s favorites & Rolling Stone has it at #176 on their list of ‘The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Released in May of 1976, it would go 4x Platinum.  One of my favorites as well, I hope you like Aerosmith because their 4th album, well, it just “Rocks.”

B-Side Trax:

A new concept for radio: a 6-minute featurette that airs once a day, five days a week.  Aside from digging up songs unburnt, there’s also a fascinating, 30-second story behind each track. Because it plays to the ‘Short Attention-Span Theater’ we all have nowadays, the tune-out factor is zero !!

Here’s what aired last week on B-Side Alternative and a link to a recent show:

Black – Pearl Jam / Click To Play Show

Monday:               Fly – Sugar Ray
Tuesday:               Down – 311
Wednesday:         Blue Sky Mine – Midnight Oil
Thursday:             Underneath The Radar – Underworld
Friday:                  Black – Pearl Jam

Many stations use this vignette as a lead-in or the centerpiece for their retro or flashback shows. Some use it as a stand-alone or even combine each week’s shows to form a 30-minute weekend retro feature. That flexibility is a benefit for individual stations to use to their advantage.

Ben Stiller Actually Helped to Create The ‘Hot Librarian’ Look – B-Side Trax …

It’s true, you see Lisa lived across the the street from her friend Ethan Hawke & gave him a demo of this song.  He in turn, gave it to his friend Ben Stiller, who used it in a movie he was making at the time.

As for the video, it was actually filmed in two takes in the apartment where Loeb was staying at the time, directed by none other than Ethan Hawke himself.  And the Hot Librarian’ look had its humble beginning …

He Was Well On His Way To Becoming a Pro Surfer Until an Accident Ended His Career – B-Side Trax …

Growing up surfing the North Shore, he was the youngest finalist ever at the Pipeline Masters.  Just one week later, he took a spill at Pipeline that gave him over 150 stitches in his forehead, knocked out a few of his teeth & ended his pro surfing career.

So instead of crying over his misfortune ( maybe he did a little … ) he put down his surfboard & picked up a guitar.  All his debut album in 2001 did was go Platinum here, Britain & the UK.  Well played Sir ..

This legendary Guitarist Used to Carry a Broom Around in Grade School – B-Side Trax: FEB 12th 2019

It’s true !  His Father couldn’t afford to buy one for him & neither could/would his school.  One day, he was helping his Dad clean out garbage from an elderly woman’s house & he found a ukulele that only had one string.  She let him keep it and a star had his humble beginning …

Below, is the very 1st song he ever wrote & one of my personal faves – enjoy !

B-Side Trax Classic Launches Monday March 4th !! FEB 5th 2019

Yep, it’s finally here !  B-Side Trax was originally conceived as a Classic Rock Program.  But, for various logistical & strategic reasons, I released the Alternative version first.  Now, almost four years after the Alternative show debuted, it is with great pleasure that I introduce “B-Side Classic”.

Same tried & true formula, different genre of Songs Unburnt.  Mainly 70’s & 80’s centric, we’ll dip back into the 60’s to touch on some psychedelia AND lean into the 90’s to feature some of those great bands & stories too.  I hope you enjoy the new format as much as I’ll enjoy bringing it to you !!

                                                                                                                                 Beginning on March 4th !!

This Band Turned Down a Million Dollar$$ To Re-Record Their 6th Album !! B-Side Trax: JAN 29th 2019

The record company said it wasn’t rock enough to play on rock radio & that it was more suited to Urban Radio …  Good thing they didn’t !  The band knew they had to release an album that was even better than their previous blockbuster, and they were convinced that they had.  They were right !

All it did was go 6x Platinum !!

Do You Know Which Band Named Themselves after a Monty Python Skit ? B-Side Trax: JAN 22nd 2019

Sure enough.  The boys met while attending San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara.  The singer/songwriter/guitarist was only 15.  Their very 1st live performance was at an open-mic contest (they didn’t win)

How did they come by their name ?  My best guess is, a whole lotta late-night TV …

There’s No Demo For This Huge Hit Because It was Written The Day it Was Recorded – B-Side Trax: JAN 8th 2019

The album was coming off two huge albums and the pressure was on to produce another.  Composed entirely by the guitarist, it is a rock opera set in London and Brighton in 1965 & follows a young mod & his search for importance.

              Brighton Beach

Written in Oxford & Carnaby Streets between appointments Pete just carried it into the studio later that day and the rest as they say is history …

Episodes – B-Side Trax – Week of DEC 31st: This Hall of Fame Band Got Turned Down By a Pub – B-Side Trax …

Believe it or not, this band tried to get a local Birmingham pub to sponsor them in their early years.  The pub, Mitchells & Butlers, politely declined, but the band carried on anyway.

16 studio albums & a Hall of Fame career later, the band did just fine.  The pub seems to be doing okay too, but I’ll bet they’d like another shot at that sponsorship ….

Oh yeah, by the way – Merry Christmas !!
