Most of us in the radio biz did not get here by accident. We got here by virtue of a deep love & respect for the medium. We grew up listening and then deliberately became part of the magic.
B-Side Trax is a product of that love & respect. We all know why so many of today’s songs are overplayed and even crossover to other formats – it’s survival. With ever-increasing competition & tiny margins for error, programmers do not have the luxury to take chances.
As a retro show featuring those lesser-played ( but still great ) tunes, that can’t seem to find a place on today’s format-driven radio, B-Side Alternative features songs at least 10 years old, is 80’s & 90’s centric while adding an occasional tune from the 70’s and/or the 21st Century. When you factor in the great stories ‘behind the music’, it’s a great way to bring in 23 unique songs every month without touching your library.
B-Side Trax:
A new concept for radio: a 6-minute featurette that airs once a day, five days a week. Besides digging up songs unburnt, there’s also a fascinating story behind each track. The tune-out factor is next to zero !!
Here’s what aired last week on B-Side Alternative and a link to a recent show:

Monday: Ends – Everlast
Tuesday: I Know What Boys Like – The Waitresses
Wednesday: Dead Leaves & The Dirty Ground – The White Stripes

Many stations use this vignette as a lead-in or the centerpiece for their retro or flashback shows. Some use it as a stand-alone or even combine each week’s shows to form a 30-minute weekend retro feature. That flexibility is a benefit for individual stations to use to their advantage.
