I was working on a fish farm ( yes, there really is such a thing ! ) in Miami, but I really wanted to be in radio. I knew even then that without training or an uncle in the biz, I’d never get in in a big city. So I moved to Ft Myers, got a job dj’ing in a bar & guess what ?
I started at WINK, an AM, FM, TV combo, playing 97 Rock on a TM automated format on the FM. And ‘The Music of Your Life’ on the AM side. Hey, it got me in ! 39 years later …
B-Side Trax:
A new concept for radio: a 6-minute featurette that airs once a day, five days a week. Besides digging up songs unburnt, there’s also a fascinating, 30-second story behind each track. Because it plays to the ‘Short Attention-Span Theater’ we all have nowadays, the tune-out factor is next to zero !!
Here’s what aired last week on B-Side Alternative and a link to a recent show:
Monday: Hitchin’ a Ride – Green Day Tuesday: Carnival – Natalie Merchant Wednesday: Gone Daddy Gone – Violent Femmes Thursday Lump – Presidents of the USA Friday: People Who Died – Jim Carroll Band Many stations use this vignette as a lead-in or the centerpiece for their retro or flashback shows. Some use it as a stand-alone or even combine each week’s shows to form a 30-minute weekend retro feature. That flexibility is a benefit for individual stations to use to their advantage.
Here’s a week on B-Side Classic Rock, plus a show link:
Monday: Sole Survivor – Asia Tuesday: She’s Got Issues – The Offspring Wednesday: Portrait ( He Knew ) Thursday Vehicle – Ides of March Friday: Train Kept a Rollin’ – Aerosmith
B-Well,
Mike
