Episodes – B-Side Trax – Week of SEP 18th: I used to listen to radio too – B-Side Trax …
I come from a time when EVERYBODY listened to the radio. Our very identities were tied to whichever station we associated with. Top 40, Rock ( of course ) & even country. It was where we got our news, most of our new music and caught up with what our favorite DJ’s were up to …
It’s different now. Peoples consumption is different. Their associations, how they get their news & how they access all of it, is changing. And we, have to change with them (ahead of them if possible). One thing never changes – good content. Offer them something compelling that they can’t get anywhere else …
B-Side Trax:
A new concept for radio: a 6-minute featurette that airs once a day, five days a week. Besides digging up songs unburnt, there’s also a fascinating, 30-second story behind each track. Because it plays to the ‘Short Attention-Span Theater’ we all have nowadays, the tune-out factor is next to zero !!
Here’s what aired last week on B-Side Alternative and a link to a recent show:
Patience – Guns & Roses / Click To Play Show
Monday: Girl – Beck
Tuesday: Patience – Guns & Roses
Wednesday: Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) – Flock of Seagulls
Thursday Down in a Hole – Alice in Chains
Friday: I Fought The Law – The Clash
Many stations use this vignette as a lead-in or the centerpiece for their retro or flashback shows. Some use it as a stand-alone or even combine each week’s shows to form a 30-minute weekend retro feature. That flexibility is a benefit for individual stations to use to their advantage.
Here’s a week on B-Side Classic Rock, plus a show link:
Down by The Seaside – Led Zeppelin / Click To Play Show
Monday: I’ve Got a Feeling – The Beatles
Tuesday: Minority – Green Day
Wednesday: All Over Town – April Wine
Thursday I’d Love To Change The World – 10 Years After
Friday: Down by The Seaside – Led Zeppelin
B-Well,
Mike
